Third-Party Scooter Insurance (TPO) is the most basic form of cover. This will cover you for any third-party damage or injury. This cover does not insure you for damages to your vehicle in the event of an accident.
Third Party, Fire & Theft Insurance (TPFT), covers you for everything in Third-party Only Insurance, plus any fire-related damage to or theft of your vehicle.
Fully Comprehensive (Fully Comp) Scooter and Moped insurance from Lexham offers you complete cover. You will be covered for all of the aforementioned and any accidental damage to your vehicle due to an accident.
You'll be asked if you require pillion use as part of the quotation and this can be included provided you have the right licence entitlement.

Yes! You must have insurance to ride your scooter or moped on public roads. Whether you have a provisional or a full bike licence, we can offer you an insurance policy that’s right for both you and your two-wheeler.
The cost of scooter insurance varies greatly and depends on many factors. During the insurance quotation process, the person requiring insurance needs to answer important questions in order for the insurer to determine the premium cost for that person.
These important answers will give the insurers information on how much of a risk this particular insurance policy would be. Normally the higher the risk an insurance policy is deemed by an insurer, the higher the premium (insurance cost).
Everything from the typical make, model, and value to where the bike is kept, annual mileage, location, and policyholder's job are just some of the aspects which all contribute to an insurance quotation. To get a true idea of scooter insurance cost for yourself, get a quote today online with Lexham Insurance!
If you’re looking to take out an insurance policy, in addition to your personal details we’ll need to know further information, such as:

You’ll also need to let us know if and when you passed your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and what type of licence you hold.

A moped is a two-wheel vehicle with an engine size under 50cc and capable of no more than 28mph. If the engine is larger than this, and has a step through frame and a platform for the riders feet then it is classified as a scooter.
To get started riding you will need to be 16 years old or older and have a provisional licence. To ride as a learner you will also need to complete your CBT, and to remove your L-plates you will need to take a moped or motorcycle test. (Unless you have a full UK driving licence and passed your test before 1st February 2001 , in which case you can ride a moped without L-plates already).
Having a policy with Lexham allows customers access to various benefits, all as standard.
You will also have the choice to add extras to your policy including Breakdown Cover, Excess Protection, Helmets & Leathers Insurance and Personal Accident Cover for an additional fee.
At Lexham Insurance, we offer multi-vehicle schemes for riders with more than one bike.
This means customers can add various two-wheelers, such as adding classic scooter and 50cc moped all onto a single insurance policy.
For a multi-vehicle scooter and moped insurance policy, please call our broking team on 01379 646 529 who will be able to assist you with a bespoke quotation.
Scooters and mopeds come with a range of different engine sizes, from small 50cc mopeds that are great for beginners up to large capacity maxi scooters and three wheelers.
Mopeds will typically have an engine capacity of 50cc, and a top speed of around 28mph.
50cc Scooters & Mopeds make a great option for learners and new riders, as they can be ridden from the age of 16, once their CBT has been completed.
Here at Lexham, we can offer specialist 50cc moped insurance for both qualified and learner riders.
Lexham is one of the leading insurance companies to offer Electric Moped & Scooter Insurance to all riders above the age of 16.
In terms of which electric scooters you can ride, this will work in the same way as their petrol counterparts. For example, if you wish to ride a L1e Bike (50cc Equivalent) you will need to be at least 16 years old and hold a current CBT certificate, where as if you wish to ride a 11kW (A2 equivalent) two wheeler, you must have your A2 licence.
Maxi Scooters are greater in size than normal scooters, and are better suited for commuting and touring.
In terms of capacity, maxi scooters can start at 125cc all the way up to 600cc+. So, depending on which model you wish to ride, will dictate which licence you will need.
125cc Scooters & Mopeds can be ridden from the age of 17, once the rider has either completed their CBT, or passed their motorcycle theory test with an A1 Motorcycle Licence.
Any scooter that is over 20 years old is considered a classic.
At Lexham, we can offer cover for all vintage/classic scooter makes & models, including the likes of Vespa and Lambretta.
Policies on classic scooters will include extras such as agreed value, salvage retention, and spare parts cover.
