Manage your motorcycle insurance policy online via our app or portal. You can make changes, report claims and renew your policy easily.
To get the right policy for your Yamaha, it's important to understand your cover options. Consider the level of cover for your needs.
This is the most extensive level of Yamaha insurance cover. Fully Comprehensive motorcycle insurance includes:
Damage to your own bike and any third party from accidents – whether it's your fault or not
Fire damage, theft and compensation for your damaged bike (replacement only if less than 1 year old and policy terms apply)
As the name suggests, it's the most comprehensive cover for your Yamaha.
This option covers you for:
Injury to other people, or damage to vehicles or property in the case of an accident
If your Yamaha is stolen or damaged from an attempted theft
Fire damage
If you're responsible for an accident, third party fire and theft (TPFT) doesn't cover the cost of repairing your Yamaha.
This is the minimum legal cover in the UK. It covers you for:
Any damage you cause to someone else’s property or person.
It doesn't cover damage to your own moped or scooter or injury to yourself. It also won't cover the costs of replacing your vehicle if it's stolen, or fire damage.
We offer optional add-ons to enhance your Yamaha insurance policy Discover more about upgrades and extras

The Yamaha Motor Company was first established in 1995, spinning off from the Yamaha Corporation (famous for musical instruments. Hence the tuning fork logo).
Their first motorcycle, the YA-1, was a single-cylinder machine that went on to have great success in racing. This success carried on into the 1960s with their 2-stroke motorcycle racing, which saw their first international race win at the Belgium GP (250cc class).
Over the decades, Yamaha Motor has grown into one of the biggest motorcycle brands offering a large selection of scooters and motorcycles running from learner-friendly Neo's 4 50cc scooters up to the powerful supersport motorcycles.
Yamaha has continued to progress in motorsport, with arguable its most famous success being in MotoGP, where they’ve won multiple world championships.
This engineering excellence and reliability is why Yamaha consistently ranks as one of the most dependable motorcycle brands – and why we’re proud to offer specialist insurance for Yamaha owners.
We understand taking out insurance for your Yamaha Motorcycle and Scooter Insurance can seem complicated, but we're here to help. Discover answers to some of our most-asked questions below.
If you want to know about...
Yes, you do. It's against the law to ride on UK roads without at least third-party insurance, even if you've only got a provisional licence.
While you're not required to carry your insurance documents with you constantly, you must provide them to a police officer upon request - either on the spot or within 7 days by presenting them at a police station.
It's also advisable to keep your driving licence with you.
To get a quote, you'll need:
Your Yamaha’s registration number
The make and model (e.g., MT-07, NMAX, YZF-R125)
Your riding licence details (whether you've passed your CBT, and what type of licence you hold – A1, A2 or full A)
Your postcode
Your date of birth
Details of any previous claims, convictions or accidents in the last five years
Your no claims bonus (if you have one)
How you'll use your Yamaha (social and commuting, business use, delivery, etc.)
Your estimated annual mileage
Don't worry if you haven't got all the details to hand –
We insure most Yamaha motorcycles, scooters and mopeds - from 50cc learner scooters up to large-capacity adventure bikes and naked bikes.
We specialise in small to mid-capacity Yamahas, which means we're particularly experienced with popular models like the MT-07, NMAX, YZF-R125, and Aerox range.
We focus on bikes that suit learner riders, commuters, and everyday riders rather than high-performance supersport models.
Yes. Immediate quote and cover is available for most Yamaha models, provided the risk falls within our underwriting appetite.
If your specific Yamaha or circumstances require additional review, we'll let you know during the quote process. Request a callback if you'd prefer to speak to someone directly.
If you want to know about...
You need to tell us about any modifications, both when you're getting a quote and any time you make changes during your policy. That includes things like exhaust systems, performance upgrades, custom paintwork, or any aftermarket parts. If you're in doubt, ask us.
We'll look at each Yamaha individually. Modifications will usually increase your premium, but we'll do what we can to find you competitive cover.
Most of our policies include European cover for up to 90 days a year, with a maximum of 30 days in one go.
Before you head off, check your policy documents to see which countries you're covered in, how many days you've got, and what level of cover applies when you're abroad, as it might be different to what you've got in the UK.
If you need to extend your cover or you're going somewhere that's not included, request a callback before you go, or manage your policy on the Lexham Insurance App or through the Lexham Portal on our website.
You can if you've got the right licence for it. When you're getting a quote, we'll ask if you want pillion cover, and we can add that to your policy.
Check your documents to make sure it's included. If you haven't got pillion cover but need to add it, just request a callback, or adjust your policy on the Lexham Insurance App or through the Lexham Portal on our website.
If you want to know about...
There are a few things that can help bring down your premium:
Fitting additional insurance-approved trackers to your Yamaha can provide discounts. Keep it in a locked garage or secure premises overnight if possible. Please note that mechanical locks are a policy requirement.
Your riding record makes a big difference. Accruing your no-claims bonus is the single most efficient way of building up discounts on your insurance quote. Try to avoid getting points on your licence or having accidents.
When setting up your policy, you could choose a higher voluntary excess to lower your insurance premium. However, take care to guarantee you would still be able to afford the excess should a claim arise – and that the value of this excess does not exceed the value of your Yamaha. Be realistic about your annual mileage, too – estimating too high will increase your premium.
Request a callback and we can talk through more ways to lower your premium.
It depends on the model and your circumstances. Smaller Yamahas like the Aerox 50 or D'elight 125 tend to have lower premiums.
Mid-capacity bikes like the MT-07 can be more competitive to insure than you might expect, thanks to Yamaha's strong reliability reputation.
Factors that affect your premium include your age, experience, location, the specific Yamaha model, and how you use your bike.
At Lexham, we assess each case individually to offer you competitive cover.
