Classic & Vintage Scooter Insurance

At Lexham, we understand how important your classic vehicles are to you, which is why we have specialist policies for your classic or vintage scooter that include the high level of protection you need. As a National Scooter Rally sponsor and attendee, we love all things classic and work closely with insurers to be able to offer highly competitive insurance for both standard and modified classic scooters.

Our classic scooter insurance is for scooters that are 20 years old or over. If your bike is less than 20 years old, we also offer standard scooter insurance for newer vehicles. Still unsure if your bike is classic or not? Get in touch, and our team will assist you with any queries you have.

We cover all makes and types of classic scooters, from well-known manufacturers such as Vespa and Lambretta to rarer and less known scooters. We also insure all bikes, whether they’re original, restored, modified, chopped or customised, and our broking team will make sure that you have the right type of cover. We also include breakdown* on our classic scooter policies.

Multi Vehicle Policies

If you’re looking to cover your everyday ride and your leisure bike all at once, we offer multi vehicle policies that cover both your modern two-wheeler and your classic scooter.

We allow up to 8 vehicles on a standard policy, but the total value must not exceed £30,000 but we will happily look at larger collections of vehicles on an individual basis.

For a multi vehicle quote, please call us on 01379 646 529.

Agreed value insurance specialists

When taking out insurance for your classic or vintage scooter, many insurance companies will use the average market value of the particular make and model, rather than the price you’d get if sold on the open market. This can cause problems if you need to claim on your insurance, with insurance companies tending to value your vehicle a lot lower than it's worth.

Here at Lexham, we are Agreed Value Insurance specialists. This means we understand that rarity and restoration can add substantial value to your pride and joy. Therefore, when agreeing the value of your vehicle, we take these aspects into consideration to ensure you're covered for the total value of your vehicle.

To provide a quote for an agreed value policy, we will require more information when setting up, including:

  • Up to 5 photos of the vehicle
  • Copies of bills for parts and servicing (dependent on value)

In some circumstances these will be sent to an independent valuation officer – in these cases please allow extra time to get these policies in place.

Classic scooter insurance FAQs

Which bikes are classed as classic or vintage scooters? Classic and vintage scooters are defined as scooters that are older than 20 years old, no matter what make or model the vehicle is. If you’re unsure of the age of your vehicle, or whether it would be considered a classic scooter, please get in touch. How much does classic scooter insurance cost? The cost of your classic scooter insurance will depend on many different factors, for example, the make and model of the vehicle you are insuring, any modifications as well as information about you, such as past convictions and no claims bonuses. What’s the difference between standard and classic scooter insurance? Classic scooter insurance is designed specifically for older vehicles. Therefore, we work closely with specialist insurers for classic and vintage policies to ensure your needs are covered. We understand that your vintage bike is less likely to be used on a daily basis, which means we can offer limited mileage discounts on these policies, as well as spare parts cover and salvage retention. What do I need to provide to get classic scooter insurance? If you’re looking to take out an insurance policy, in addition to your personal details we’ll need to know further information, such as: - Your number plate - The make and model of your bike - Your annual mileage - How many years no claims bonus you have - Details of any convictions - Details of any accidents in the last five years - You’ll also need to let us know if and when you passed your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and what type of licence you hold. In addition to this, if you need Agreed Value Insurance, we will also need photos of the vehicle and copies of bills for parts and servicing. Which classic scooters and mopeds do Lexham insure? Lexham are specialists in classic and vintage scooter cover. We are able to offer policies for all types of classic scooters, from well known brands such as Vespa and Lambretta, as well as lesser known makes and models, including Triumph, Moto Rumi, MaicoLetta and Panther.
