We've been insuring mopeds and scooters for over 25 years, with specialist expertise in delivery rider insurance. Unlike standard motorbike insurance, our specialist Hire & Reward policies are designed for the unique risks of delivery work.
As a specialist broker, we understand what delivery riders need: fast quotes, competitive rates, and support when you need it most.
With over 25 years of experience, we focus on what we do best: providing specialist vehicle policies, including bikes used for delivery work. This includes:
Food delivery riders (Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats)
Parcel and courier delivery
Grocery delivery riders
50cc mopeds to 500cc motorcycles and scooters
We understand the challenges delivery riders face – inner city riding, high mileage, time pressures. Our specialist focus on delivery riders means we can assess your individual circumstances to find competitive rates.
Delivery riders need insurance to start work or avoid gaps in cover. That's why we offer:
Instant online quotes available
Same-day cover available
Quick policy changes if you add delivery work to existing riding
We work with our own dedicated claims handlers right here in our UK office, with claims administered on behalf of Lexham by Marble Arch. This means:
More flexibility. We assess your individual circumstances and riding history; we don't just tick boxes.
Direct relationship. Speak to the people who handle your claim.
Our team is here from start to finish.
For delivery riders, we understand that time off the road means lost income. Our claims handlers work hard to process claims in a timely manner.
If you're using your bike or scooter for delivery work, standard Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SD&P) insurance won't cover you. You need Hire & Reward insurance.
Here's what you need to know:
Hire & Reward (H&R) insurance is specialist cover for riders who transport goods or people for payment. This is legally required for:
Food delivery (Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats)
Parcel and package delivery
Grocery delivery
Motorcycle courier work
Without H&R insurance, you're riding illegally and won't be covered if you have an accident while delivering.
Using standard insurance for delivery work can result in:
Your policy being voided (meaning you have no insurance at all)
Fines of up to £1,000
6-8 penalty points on your licence
Your bike being seized by police
Claims being rejected, leaving you personally liable for damages
Difficulty getting insurance in future
Delivery platforms like Deliveroo and Just Eat check insurance documents. If you don't have valid H&R cover, you can't work.
Don't confuse Business Use with Hire & Reward insurance.
Business Use covers travelling between work sites or visiting clients
Hire & Reward covers carrying goods or passengers for payment
Delivery work requires Hire & Reward. Business Use alone is not sufficient and could leave you uninsured.
We offer three levels of cover for delivery riders. Choose the protection that suits your needs and budget.
This is the most extensive level of delivery rider insurance cover. Fully Comprehensive delivery rider insurance includes:
Damage to your own bike and any third party from accidents – whether it's your fault or not
Fire damage, theft and compensation for your damaged bike (replacement only if less than 1 year old and policy terms apply)
As the name suggests, it's the most comprehensive cover for your vehicle.
This level of cover includes:
Injury to other people, or damage to vehicles or property in the case of an accident
Theft of your motorbike or damage from attempted theft
Fire damage to your bike
Hire & Reward use for delivery work
If you're at fault in an accident, TPFT won't cover repairs to your own bike. Consider whether you could afford to replace your bike if needed.
This is the minimum legal cover in the UK. It covers you for:
Any damage you cause to someone else’s property or person.
It doesn't cover damage to your own moped or scooter or injury to yourself. It also won't cover the costs of replacing your vehicle if it's stolen, or fire damage.
Delivery rider insurance tends to be more expensive than standard motorbike insurance because of the increased risk. Understanding what affects your premium can help you find more competitive prices.
Make, model and engine size (we cover up to 500cc)
Age and value of the bike
Security devices fitted (alarms, locks, trackers)
Where you store the bike overnight (secure garage or premises)
Your age and riding experience
Your postcode
Your riding history (past claims, convictions, accidents)
How long you've held your licence
Your no claims bonus (if transferable from previous insurance)
Annual mileage (delivery riders typically cover 5,000-15,000+ miles per year)
Type of delivery (food, parcel, courier)
Whether it's full-time or part-time work
Whether you own the bike or it's provided by a company
As a specialist delivery rider insurance broker, we assess your individual circumstances to find you a more competitive quote. This flexibility helps us offer competitive delivery rider insurance quotes.

Getting the right insurance for delivery work is essential. Here are answers to the questions we're asked most by delivery riders.
If you want to know about...
Yes, you do. If you're delivering goods for payment, standard motorbike insurance won't cover you. You need Hire & Reward (H&R) insurance.
Using standard Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SD&P) insurance for delivery work is illegal.
All major delivery platforms (Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats) require proof of H&R insurance before you can start work.
Hire & Reward insurance is specialist cover for riders who transport goods or passengers for payment. It's a legal requirement for all delivery work.
At Lexham Insurance, we specialise in H&R insurance for delivery riders and work to keep premiums as competitive as possible.
This is a common confusion:
Business Use covers travelling between different work locations or visiting clients as part of your job. For example, a tradesperson visiting multiple job sites.
Hire & Reward covers carrying goods or passengers for payment. This is what delivery riders need.
If you only have Business Use on your policy, you're not covered for delivery work. Make sure your policy specifically states Hire & Reward or Courier Use.
It depends on your current insurer. Some insurers won't offer Hire & Reward cover at all or will charge significantly more.
At Lexham, we specialise in delivery rider insurance and can often offer more competitive rates than adding H&R to a standard policy.
If you need to add delivery use mid-policy, request a callback and we can quote for a new policy.
No. One Hire & Reward policy covers you for all delivery platforms. You don't need separate insurance for Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, for example.
When you get a quote, let us know which platforms you work for. Your single policy will cover delivery work across all of them.
If you add new platforms later, you don't usually need to change your policy, but it's good practice to let us know so we have accurate records.
If you want to know about...
Delivery rider insurance costs vary significantly based on your individual circumstances, including:
Your age (younger riders typically pay more)
Your location (inner city areas have higher premiums)
Your bike (larger bikes cost more to insure)
Your experience (newly qualified riders pay more)
Your mileage (higher mileage = higher premium)
Your claims history
For an accurate quote tailored to you, get an instant quote online or request a callback.
Hire & Reward insurance costs more than standard cover because delivery riders face higher risks:
Higher annual mileage (more time on the road = more accident risk)
Urban riding (busier roads, more hazards, higher theft rates)
Time pressures
Stop-start riding (frequent acceleration and braking)
Night riding
Weather exposure (riding in all conditions to earn)
These factors combine to create higher claims rates for delivery riders compared to leisure riders. Insurers price policies accordingly.
At Lexham Insurance, our specialist focus helps us offer competitive rates despite these risks.
Here are some practical ways that could lower your premium:
Fitting additional insurance-approved trackers to your bike can provide discounts. Store your bike in a secure garage or premises overnight if possible. Please note that mechanical locks are a policy requirement.
Building up your no claims bonus is the single most efficient way of reducing your insurance quote over time. Some insurers allow you to transfer NCB from car insurance or non-delivery bike insurance – check with us if this applies to you.
Choosing a higher voluntary excess can reduce your premium. However, take care in ensuring you would still be able to afford the excess should a claim arise, and that the value of the excess does not exceed the value of your bike
Smaller capacity bikes (50cc-125cc) are cheaper to insure than larger bikes. Electric bikes can sometimes offer competitive rates.
Be honest about your annual mileage, but don't overestimate. If you're part-time, your mileage might be lower than you think.
Request a callback and we can talk through more ways to lower your premium.
If you want to know about...
Your bike must have two forms of mechanical security as a policy requirement (not just recommended):
A steering lock (most bikes have this as standard)
PLUS one of the following: a d-lock, disc lock, grip lock, or an armoured chain
These security requirements apply at all times, including when you're parked during deliveries or pickups. Fitting additional insurance-approved security devices such as alarms or trackers can also help reduce your premium.
If you're unsure which security products meet our requirements, request a callback and we can help.
If you have Third Party, Fire & Theft or Comprehensive cover, theft is covered even if it happens during delivery work.
To make a claim, you'll need to:
Report the theft to police immediately and get a crime reference number
Contact our claims line as soon as possible
Provide details of where and when the bike was stolen
Confirm what security measures were in place
Using proper security (disc locks, alarms, chains) is essential – both to prevent theft and to ensure your claim is valid.
Your Hire & Reward policy covers both. H&R insurance includes Social, Domestic and Pleasure use, so you're covered for:
Delivery work (food, parcel, courier)
Personal journeys
Commuting to other jobs
Social riding
You don't need two separate policies. One H&R policy covers everything.
You need to tell us about any modifications, both when you're getting a quote and any time you make changes during your policy. That includes things like exhaust systems, performance upgrades, custom paintwork, or any aftermarket parts.
We'll look at each bike individually. Modifications will usually increase your premium, but we'll do what we can to find you competitive cover. If you're in any doubt about whether something counts as a modification, please ask us.
