Honda Insurance Cover Levels

To find the right policy for your Honda, it's important to understand your cover options.

Comprehensive

This is the most extensive level of Honda insurance cover. Fully Comprehensive motorcycle insurance includes:

  • Damage to your own bike and any third party from accidents – whether it's your fault or not.

  • Any damage caused by fire or attempted theft (replacement only if less than 1 year old and policy terms apply).

As the name suggests, it is the most comprehensive cover available for your Honda.

Third party, fire and theft (TPFT)

This option covers you for:

  • Injury to other people, or damage to third-party vehicles and property in the case of an accident

  • If your Honda is stolen or damaged in an attempted theft

  • Fire damage

If you're responsible for an accident, third-party fire and theft (TPFT) doesn't cover the loss or cost of repairing your Honda.

Third party only (TPO)

The minimum legal requirement for riding on UK roads. This covers:

  • Injury or damage caused to other people and their property.

  • It does not cover damage to your own motorcycle, theft, or fire damage.

You can also choose from a range of optional upgrades and add-ons to enhance your Honda insurance policy. Discover more about upgrades and extras. Discover more about upgrades and extras

A brief history of Honda Motorcycles

Honda was originally founded in Japan, back in 1948, by engineer Soichiro Honda and businessman Takeo Fujisawa.

Following the Second World War, Soichiro Honda began fitting small engines to bicycles, creating an affordable way to transport, which soon grew in popularity. The company then officially became Honda Motor Co. on the 24th September 1948.

The following year, Honda launched its first complete motorcycle, the Dream D-Type. However, it wasn’t until 1958 that Honda got their breakthrough with the global success of the Super Cub. Renowned for its reliability, affordability, and ease of use, the Super Cub became one of the world's best-selling motor vehicles and helped establish Honda as a major force in the motorcycle industry.

Fast forward to the modern day, and Honda is one of the most recognisable motorcycle manufacturers, producing a whole host of bikes from 125cc learner-friendly bikes and practical scooters to high-performance superbikes and adventure motorcycles.

Models including the CB125F, PCX125, Africa Twin, and Fireblade have earned Honda a reputation for quality, innovation, and reliability among riders across the globe.

Understanding honda motorcycle & scooter insurance

We understand taking out insurance for your Honda Motorcycle & Scooter Insurance can seem complicated, but we're here to help. Discover answers to some of our most-asked questions below.

If you want to know about...

The Honda Insurance you need

Do you need insurance for a Honda Motorcycle, Moped or scooter?

Yes, you do. It's against the law to ride on UK roads without at least third-party insurance, even if you've only got a provisional licence.

While you're not required to carry your insurance documents with you constantly, you must provide them to a police officer upon request - either on the spot or within 7 days by presenting them at a police station.

It's also advisable to keep your driving licence with you.

What information do I need to hand for Honda insurance?

To get a quote, you'll need:

  • Your Honda’s registration number

  • The make and model (e.g., PCX, Forza, Rebel)

  • Your riding licence details (whether you've passed your CBT, and what type of licence you hold – A1, A2 or full A)

  • Your postcode

  • Your date of birth

  • Details of any previous claims, convictions, or accidents in the last five years

  • Your no-claims bonus (if you have one)

  • How you'll use your Honda (social and commuting, business use, delivery, etc.)

  • Your estimated annual mileage

Does Lexham insure all Honda models?

We insure most Honda motorcycles, scooters & mopeds - from 50cc learner mopeds up to large-capacity adventure motorcycles.

We specialise in small to mid-capacity Hondas, which means we're particularly experienced with popular models like the PCX, Rebel, Monkey, and Goldwing range.

We focus on bikes that suit learner riders, commuters, and everyday riders rather than high-performance supersport models.

Can I get immediate cover for my Honda?

Yes. Immediate quotes and cover are available for most Honda models, provided the risk falls within our underwriting appetite.

If your specific Honda or circumstances require additional review, we'll let you know during the quote process.

If you want to know about...

More about your Honda Insurance

What if my Honda is modified?

You must tell us about any modifications, both when you're getting a quote and any time you make changes during your policy. That includes things like exhaust systems, performance upgrades, custom paintwork, or any aftermarket parts. If you're in doubt, ask us.

We'll look at each Honda individually. Modifications will usually increase your premium, but we'll do what we can to find you competitive cover.

Can I carry a passenger on my Honda?

You can if you've got the right licence for it. When you're getting a quote, we'll ask if you want pillion cover, and we can add that to your policy.

Check your documents to make sure it's included. If you haven't got pillion cover but need to add it, just request a get in contact with us or adjust your policy on the Lexham Insurance App or through the Lexham Portal on our website.

Can I ride my Honda abroad?

Most of our policies include European cover for up to 90 days a year, with a maximum of 30 days in one go.

Before you head off, check your policy documents to see which countries you're covered in, how many days you've got, and what level of cover applies when you're abroad, as it might be different from what you've got in the UK.

If you need to extend your cover or you're going somewhere that's not included, get in contact with us before you go, or manage your policy on the Lexham Insurance App or through the Lexham Portal on our website.

If you want to know about...

Honda Insurance Costs

How can I reduce my Honda insurance cost?

There are a few things that can help bring down your premium:

  • Fitting additional insurance-approved trackers to your Honda can provide discounts. Keep it in a locked garage or secure premises overnight if possible. Please note that mechanical locks may be a requirement on your policy - make sure to consult your policy wording for the full details.

  • Your riding record makes a big difference. Accruing your no-claims bonus is the single most efficient way of building up discounts on your insurance quote. Try to avoid getting points on your licence or having accidents.

  • When setting up your policy, you could choose a higher voluntary excess to lower your insurance premium. However, take care to guarantee you would still be able to afford the excess should a claim arise – and that the value of this excess does not exceed the value of your Honda. Be realistic about your annual mileage, too – estimating too high will increase your premium.

Is Honda motorcycle insurance expensive?

It depends on the model and your circumstances. Smaller Yamahas like the Vision 50 or CBR125 tend to have lower premiums.

Mid-capacity bikes like the NX500 can be more competitive to insure than you might expect, thanks to Honda’s strong reliability reputation.

Factors that affect your premium include your age, experience, location, the specific Honda model, and how you use your bike.

At Lexham, we assess each case individually to offer you competitive cover.

If you want to know about...
