Classic and vintage scooters are defined as scooters that are older than 20 years, no matter what make or model the vehicle is. If you’re unsure of the age of your vehicle, or whether it would be considered a classic scooter, please get in touch.
How much does classic scooter insurance cost?
The cost of your classic scooter insurance will depend on many different factors, for example, the make and model of the vehicle you are insuring, any modifications as well as information about you, such as past convictions and no claims bonuses.
What’s the difference between standard and classic scooter insurance?
Classic scooter insurance is designed specifically for older vehicles. Therefore, we work closely with specialist Insurers for classic and vintage policies to ensure your needs are covered. We understand that your vintage bike is less likely to be used on a daily basis, which means we can offer limited mileage discounts on these policies, as well as spare parts cover and salvage retention.
What do I need to provide to get classic scooter insurance?
If you’re looking to take out an insurance policy, in addition to your personal details we’ll need to know further information, such as:
- Your number plate
- The make and model of your bike
- Your annual mileage
- Details of any convictions
- Details of any accidents in the last five years
- You’ll also need to let us know if and when you passed your Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) and what type of licence you hold. In addition to this, if you need Agreed Value Insurance, we will also need photos of the vehicle and copies of bills for parts and servicing.

Multi Vehicle Policies
If you’re looking to cover your everyday ride and your leisure bike all at once, we offer multi vehicle policies that cover both your modern two-wheeler and your classic scooter.
We allow up to 8 vehicles on a standard policy, but the total value must not exceed £30,000 but we will happily look at larger collections of vehicles on an individual basis.

Agreed value insurance specialists
When taking out insurance for your classic or vintage scooter, many insurance companies will use the average market value of the particular make and model, rather than the price you’d get if sold on the open market. This can cause problems if you need to claim on your insurance, with insurance companies tending to value your vehicle a lot lower than it's worth.
Here at Lexham, we are Agreed Value Insurance specialists. This means we understand that rarity and restoration can add substantial value to your pride and joy. Therefore, when agreeing the value of your vehicle, we take these aspects into consideration to ensure you are covered for the total value of your vehicle.
To provide a quote for an agreed value policy, we will require more information when setting up, including:
+ Up to 5 photos of the vehicle
+ Copies of bills for parts and servicing (dependent on value)
In some circumstances these will be sent to an independent valuation officer – in these cases please allow extra time to get these policies in place.
