October saw our last European Cup commitment for this year's bike polo season.

Bike Polo European Cup Third Leg 1The final leg of the cup was held in Le Havre hosted by VC Frileuse Sanvic where nine teams battled it out for glory.

On this occasion we were able to send two Lexham sponsored teams, Oakenden and the Amazons, the later named after our home HQ (The Amazon and Tiger Pub in Harvel, Kent).

We set out on Friday morning to ensure the pre match festivities in the evening were upheld prior to the serious business of polo on Saturday morning.

Arriving at the ground fresh and ready the next morning we found a very hectic schedule of matches and refereeing commitments ahead of us.

The very first game of the day was played between our A team and B team. Needless to say the A team (Oakenden) had a convincing victory with a score line of 8 - 0.

The Amazons played a further 4 games on Saturday including games against the three strongest teams in the tournament so the result at the end of the day did not leave them in a great position. Four defeats and one win.

Oakenden played three more games and fared better with two wins and a draw but defeats in the next two games against the top two teams from Le- Havre and Rouen meant a third place finish at best.

Saturday night we set out for a restaurant in the old town with our friends from the German team Polonauten. Following the meal we had time to take in the England vs Australia rugby match before drowning our sorrows with the host polo team in a lovely bar in the old town centre of Le Havre.

Sunday brought some fine weather and a promising array of matches ahead of us.

Amazons rallied to win two games and lose one. Oakenden managed two wins and one draw. The tournament was won by Pedales Varengevillaises from Rouen and runners up were the home team, Frileuse Sanvic. Oakenden finished third and Amazons sixth.

It was another great weekend as it's always good to see our friends from France and Germany in a competitive and social environment.

Every year we get a little closer to the top two teams and hope that next year will bring further success.
